What is happening in Sudan
After more than 500 days under siege, the city of El Fasher in North Darfur in Sudan has reportedly fallen under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)1 leading to mass displacement and unimaginable suffering.
More than 260,000 people, including an estimated 130,000 children, remain trapped inside El-Fasher, facing famine-like conditions, no healthcare, and no safe way out.
People who have managed to escape have shared stories of violence, including attacks by armed men, robbery, and killings along escape routes.
Mothers and children have walked for days to make the 70km journey to the small town of Tawila, without food, water and basic supplies, and are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.
Inside El-Fasher, access to lifesaving assistance is almost completely cut off, and a 20-mile wall continues to block escape routes, leaving trapped families extremely vulnerable.
HELP CHILDREN LIKE SARA. YOUR $35 MONTHLY GIFT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Save the Children has worked in Sudan since 1983. As one of the largest NGOs in Sudan, we provide a range of services supporting children to access health, nutrition, water and sanitation facilities, education, child protection and food security and livelihoods support. We are currently working with 25 local partners in 12 out of the 18 Sudanese states, and we’re also providing critical support to children who have fled to neighbouring South Sudan and Egypt. In 2023, we reached over 1.4 million people, including 979,000 children with critical assistance in Sudan. So far in 2024, as of March, we’ve reached over 451,348 people with humanitarian support.
Save the Children has rapidly scaled up operations across Tawila and Jabal Marra since the siege began in April 2024 to meet the needs of newly arrived children and their families.
- We’re operating four health facilities and an expanding mobile health services in Tawila and across North Darfur, while in Jabal Marra, we’re operating seven health facilities and three mobile clinics.
- We are providing emergency shelter, food, water, and hygiene supplies for newly displaced families.
- We have been scaling up operations but we need a rapid escalation in funding to meet the increasing needs now. Our teams are working under extreme conditions and urgently require more support to save lives.
WHY YOUR REGULAR DONATION IS SO IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN
Our regular givers are a crucial part of our work. By giving monthly, you can help us to:
- Be ready when an emergency hits
When a disaster strikes it's always children that suffer the most. Thanks to regular donations, we are ready to react quickly, and effectively when children are at risk. - Develop long-term solutions
Having guaranteed income from our generous monthly givers means we are able to plan for long term solutions and invest in bigger projects. This means we are able to look not only at reactive work to support children - for example after natural disasters - but also develop sustainable and ongoing support for children. - Make donating easier for you
Many of our monthly givers feel it is easier to set up a regular gift as this way they are able to give proportionately more than they might for just a single donation, but can spread the cost across the year. Our monthly donations are flexible and easy to manage.
Please become a monthly donor to allow us to respond wherever the need is greatest.
