The emergency response targeted 320 households approximately 1, 600 individuals including 960 children. The humanitarian intervention in the two counties included the provision of food items, hygiene kits, and education materials.
The intervention seeks to ease the hardship faced by families struggling to recover from the flood.
At the handover ceremony in Gbarnga, Bong County on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Zinnah D. Cargeor, Safety and Security Focal Point, who also leads the Emergency Response at Save the Children Liberia, said the organization is dedicated to support people most affected by the flood.
She disclosed that Save the Children’s intervention includes the distribution of 320 bags of rice, 320 gallons of cooking oil, 320 hygiene kits and 320 education kits for those affected by the flood.
Madam Cargeor explained that the humanitarian supplies are intended to assist families, particularly children, by addressing immediate needs and enabling students to resume their education.
She stressed that Save the Children remains committed to promoting children’s education and well-being during emergencies.
On behalf of the Government of Liberia through the National Disaster Management Agency, the Director of Loss and Damage Division, praised Save the Children for its timely intervention.

Recent floods have caused widespread destruction across multiple counties, leaving thousands displaced and communities in dire need of assistance.
The disaster left over 51,000 people displaced across Liberia, destroyed homes, schools, and communities. Bong and River Cess Counties are among the hardest hit, with families struggling to recover.
Save the Children is stepping in to support victims of the flood disaster by providing essential supplies for women and girls to stay healthy and food baskets to ease the immediate burden on families.
